Laminate Care?

Use a damp cloth to blot up spills as soon as they happen. Never allow liquids to stand on your floor. Sweep, dust, or vacuum the floor regularly with the hard floor attachment (not the beater bar) to prevent accumulation of dirt and grit that can scratch or dull the floor finish. Periodically clean the floor with cleaning products made specifically for laminate floor care. Do not wash or wet mop the floor with soap, water, oil-soap detergent, or any other liquid cleaning material. This could cause swelling, warping, delamination, and joint-line separation, and void the warranty. Use floor protectors and wide-load bearing leg bases/rollers to minimize the chance of indentations and scratches from heavy objects. As a rule, the heavier the object, the wider the floor protector. Maintain a normal indoor relative humidity level between 35% and 65% throughout the year to minimize the natural expansion and contraction of the wood.

Carpet Preventive Care?

Use walk-off mats at entrances and other areas to keep outside dirt and moisture from being tracked onto the carpet. The best way to reduce dirt accumulation and prolong the life of your carpet is to vacuum as often as possible. Prompt attention to spots and spills is essential. Most carpets need to be professionally cleaned with hot water extraction every 18 - 24 months to maintain your warranty. You will want to reference your Shaw Residential Warranty for specific care requirements.

Vinyl Care?

Sweep as often as possible and use a vinyl floor clearer made by the flooring manufacturer. Use chair and appliance pads to protect your floor. Care for stains, spills, scuffs and other substances. Good quality entry and exit mats will help protect your Vinyl flooring from premature wear. Mats are also suggested at heavy pivot locations, such as in front of your kitchen sink or stove. If mats are placed directly on top of the Vinyl floors, use mats without latex or rubber backings to avoid possible discoloration.

Hardwood Care?

Use walk-off mats inside and outside entrances. Use a soft cloth to blot spills and spots as soon as they happen. Always avoid allowing liquids to stand on your floor.

Vinyl Installation?

Usually these floors only take a day to install. If we are installing the flooring in a bathroom, you will need to have your toilet pulled and reset. Be careful moving appliance back into place. If not done properly, you could tear or scratch your new floor. We suggest having our installers move the appliances for you.

Hardwood Installation?

We can remove and dispose of existing flooring and then install the hardwood. Your base boards will need to be removed and all furniture will need to be moved out of the rooms. If you need us to move furniture, we can give you an estimate on this.

Tile & Stone Cleaning?

Use walk-off mats inside and outside entrances. Sweep floor often. Make certain that any cleanser you have chosen is compatible with grout cleaning, (neutral pH), and will not stain the grout. Never use a detergent or soap, because it can dull the surface or promote the growth of mildew. Routine cleaners should never contain acids, vinegar, chlorines or ammonia, as these chemicals can damage and discolor the grout or the surface of the stone or tile. Wait at least 72 hours after installation (to allow new ceramic tile and grout to dry) before damp mopping.

Carpet Installation?

We can tear out and dispose of your existing carpet, and then install your new carpet. Typically, you will need to have all the furniture out of the room. If you are not able to more your furniture, we can give you an estimate for moving.

Tile & Stone Installation?

We can remove and dispose of existing flooring and then install the tile. Depending on the size of the room, it normally will take two days for the install - day one we will lay the subfloor and tile; day two we will grout the tile. You will not be able to walk on the tile until day two and should wait to clean the tile for at least 72 hours.
